Tzum 2018 Oisin, Columbia Valley Red Wine
This parcel is adjacent to Solais and like that wine is planted to all of the grape varieties from Chateauneuf-du-pape, but with an emphasis on Mourvedre. This is one of the last parcels to be picked and showcases the varieties compelling dual nature. It's renowned for producing dark, rustic and backward wines with pronounced meaty or barnyard flavors, but in recent years more and more examples have emerge that reveal a very perfumed and delicate side. This wine expresses elements of both styles. It is exotically perfumed with spectacular aromas of peach blossom. The wine is very rich with a supple, almost Pinot like, texture that references the gentle handling it received at the fermenter and press. But beneath all of this there is a mysterious and compelling darkness, something meaty, dense and just hidden from view.
