The May Syrah
This is from a quarter acre experimental section of vineyard dedicated to Syrah. The tiny amount of fruit is fermented whole cluster, in a barrique without its head, and macerates for up to 90 days before being pressed into a single half barrel. This a a blend of all three vintages produced to date. Among the worlds great wine regions, the Northern Rhone Valley is the climate most analogous to our own. Syrah is incredibly hard to ripen here, but when it does we are rewarded with a surprisingly pale and nuanced expression of our land.
