Hiyu 2017 Noctua, Columbia Gorge Red Wine Magnum
Noctua is a half-acre field adjacent to Corvus in the rolling, windswept, plateau in the NE corner of the property. Its interplanted with grape varieties from the Douro and Northern Spain. Like Corvus it produces one of the most powerful wines on the property, but this field renders this power in red fruit as opposed to black. Whereas Corvus is meaty, herbal and savage, this wine’s perfume is more exotically floral and its tannins are markedly more fine. In this vintage the wine was foot tread on the skins in a conical wood vat before being pressed in a small ratchet press to puncheons where it aged for two years.
