Hiyu 2018 Arco Iris
This is the epic and final vintage where this field at the very top of the hill in the center of the farm is based on Pinot Noir. We began grafting to Nebbiolo and varieties from Valle d’Aosta in 2019 and completed the work in 2020. As those wines will require extended aging in cask, it will be a very long time until we bottle wine from this parcel again.
As with all the wines from the 2018 vintage this is atypically dark, spicy and concentrated. It feels like a luxury-class bottling from a Vosne-Romanee Grand Cru and is a departure from the more ethereal wines produced from this parcel in 17 and 19, or the more nebbiolo-esque 2015 vintage. Like the wine above this will age very well. Although it’s incredibly delicious now it’s at least three years away from really showing what it’s capable of and will easily age far beyond that.
