2017 Arco Iris
This is a steep, south facing, 1 acre field in the center of the property. It’s planted to own rooted Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. The two grapes are co-fermented and spend three weeks on the skins whole cluster in an open top wooden vat before being basket pressed to a mixture of 300 and 400 liter barrels for eighteen months of aging. Arco Iris means rainbow in Italian and its roots reference the arch, the eye and the spectrum of visible light. We live in a place where the dramatic weather drawn to Mt. Hood is constantly creating rainbows and other extraordinary light affects and we named the smaller parcels within the block in reference to these. This is the most delicate, perfumed and ethereal of the more classically produced, Pinot Noir based wines made on the property.
